Testimonial Essay _ Lim Jun Guang from Nanyang Technological University
Before applying for Campus Asia in KAIST, I have always been passionate about visiting new places, learning more about the different cultures and making new friends. And I thought what better way than to participate in the KAIST International Summer School under Campus Asia! As a student living in Singapore, I love interacting with people from all around the world and to learn more about their countries. I am a big fan of sightseeing, and I knew how beautiful Korea is. I am a big fan of Korean variety shows and the Korean culture and I have always been following “2 days 1 Night” closely. I chose KISS also because I was aware that KAIST prepares activities for its students as seen on social media. Furthermore, with Campus Asia, I did not need to worry as much on the expenses incurred for my summer school study program. All these factors pushed me to participate in KISS (Campus Asia) for my summer in this academic year.
In accordance with the trilateral meeting between Korea-China-Japan, Campus Asia continues to expand while promoting exchange and cooperation among universities. I was awarded a scholarship to study at KAIST as part of the partnership between KAIST, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University and Nanyang Technological University. Through this program, I learnt that collaborating with universities from all over the world, enriches our learning and generates new insights and perspectives.
What I enjoyed most about Campus Asia was the opportunity given to intermingle
with students from partnering universities. Under the intention of exchange and
cooperation, we were able to converse and network with each other. This helped
improve my network on another level, while encouraging interactions on a
personal level. I also came to realize the importance of learning and interacting
on a higher educational network. It has helped me understand better about the
education landscape from the other countries as well as the mannerisms adopted.
In fact, I was able to converse with locals from Pohang, Daegu, and Busan
during the weekends as well. It has been a life-changing experience for me,
meeting so many people from all walks of life.
The program has reminded me of the importance of working with people of different races and culture. Living in Singapore, it has always been something that we all closely follow. Through Campus Asia, with the wider network of students from all over the world, I believe this precious experience will benefit me greatly in my future studies and career.
