The KAIST branch of Woori Bank is located in the Student Center (W2) and issues drafts, traveler’s checks, and exchanges currency. It is recommended that you open a bank account as soon as possible (there is no charge for this service).
To open an account, you need to take your passport or alien registration card as identification. When you withdraw cash by using your Visa or Master Card, please go to the bank with your passport. The bank is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Monday-Friday). There are several ATMs on campus – W1, W2, W4, W8, E2, E3, E4, E6, E11, E14, E16, E19, N1, N7, N13, N22, N25 – and most of them operate from 07:00-23:00. Among the ATMs located on campus, only the ATMs on the first floor of the Student Center (W2) provide services in English for foreign card users. It is possible to withdraw using different forms of foreign cards (Visa, Master Card, etc.) from these ATMs as well as the ones on the first floor of the Creative Learning Building (E11). ATMs are prevalent all throughout Korea, including most 24-hour convenience stores and street corners. The ATMs in the 24-hour convenience stores demand an additional charge which is relatively higher than at the ATMs of your bank account and even other bank ATMs.
In Korea, it is convenient to shop with credit cards. They are widely accepted at restaurants, supermarkets, and almost every commercial stores in Korea.
